How to uninstall Microsoft Edge from Windows 10

Microsoft has been quite aggressive in launching the Chromium-based version of Edge, and not everyone is happy about it.

It is understandably irritating to have a browser that does not necessarily need to be installed - and to further insult the injury, Microsoft has made it impossible to uninstall Edge. But there is a way to get rid of the browser. Here's what you need to know.

You may have decided that you would like to stay in the browser of your choice, as long as it is not Edge. This is perfectly reasonable, and after making that decision, why should you install Edge? There is no need to limit yourself to what Microsoft says you can and cannot do.

The company decided that you can uninstall Edge if you installed it manually (although there is no guarantee that you will not receive it again). If you installed it through Windows Update, you can remove the browser not available in the settings. However, you can go to the command prompt.

  1. Click the Start button, type cmd, right-click Command Prompt and select Run as administrator
  2. Type C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft\Edge\Application\83.0.478.58\Installer and press Enter
  3. Type setup.exe --uninstall --system-level --verbose-logging --force-uninstall and press Enter
You will find that the new version of Edge is no longer available and the old non-Chromium edition is available again.

Microsoft Edge with Chrome Engine

Microsoft is showing details of the redesign of the Chromium engine Edge browser, the same one used in Google Chrome, a while ago, including recently talking about a new logo. The good news is that now, finally, there is a release date for Microsoft's new browser: January 15, 2020.

For now, there is already a RC (Release Candidate) version, which is an almost done browser iteration for Windows and macOS and can be downloaded at your own risk.

In addition to running on the Chromium web engine, the new Microsoft Edge, as it is being called by the company, features the speed and cool features for blocking ad crawlers by default and Collections. With this feature, the user will be able to “collect, organize and share” web content more easily with the help of a sidebar and a little drag-and-drop.

If you missed extensions, be aware that with the new Microsoft Edge the company will have its own store, but you can also use options made for Google Chrome.

For the corporate audience, Microsoft has also prepared a series of customizations. For starters, the browser will still support older Internet Explorer processes. So if your company's intranet or system only works on your company's old browser, you can access these pages.

In the case of an intranet, the browser will support searches using natural language processing. Then it will be possible, for example, to search for “Sofia who is an engineer in London”. The result will show data from the person and may even show where they are sitting.

Whether we like it or not, we spend a good part of our day in a browser, whether it's using some kind of internal company system or even accessing or searching websites. Microsoft's move to stick to the Chrome engine seems to make sense, and somehow a recognition that it was not worth maintaining a mechanism of its own. Just wondering if the new Microsoft Edge will win consumers or be the browser used to download other browsers?

Tamper Protection Of Windows Defender Comes For All Users!

In a new update, Microsoft will integrate the Tamper Protection feature in Windows 10. This blocks the security software Windows Defender from external access by malware. The function can be activated and deactivated in the system settings.

Microsoft extends its windows-integrated anti-virus software Windows Defender. The Tamper Protection function will be available to all users of the operating system via update in the coming days. The IT magazine ZDNet reports concerning a Microsoft announcement by telephone. The setting is intended to prevent malware from shutting down or modifying various functions of the anti-virus software without user interaction.

Possible attack vectors include shutting down the entire anti-virus program and turning off real-time protection and behavior monitoring. Malware could also break cloud-based protection or restore security updates. Tamper Protection should prevent this. The function can be switched on and off in the system settings.

Release in waves

By switching on the function, Windows Defender is generally blocked according to Microsoft and can not be changed by users even before the feature is deactivated. So there are no changes by group policies or in the registry entries of the host regarding the antivirus software possible.

Tamper Protection was already announced in December 2018. The feature is designed for both the free version of Windows Defender and the business-grade Windows Defender Advanced Threat Protection. Like many other Windows functions, these are also distributed in waves. So not all users will have access to it immediately.

Extended Windows 7 Support Is Coming For More Customers!

In the future, all owners of Windows 7 Professional or Enterprise can order paid extended support. This will give them security patches up to three years after the release. This was previously reserved for owners of volume licenses.

Microsoft will also offer its fee-based Extended Security Updates (ESU) for Windows 7 to small and medium-sized businesses. That announced Microsoft 365 boss Jared Spataro. The security updates will continue to provide customers with patches and support for the expiring operating system, which is scheduled to shut down on January 14, 2020. "While many of you are well on your way to getting Windows 10 up and running, we realize everyone is at a different stage of the upgrade process," writes Jared Spataro.

So far, the ESUs have only been promised for larger companies that use a Windows 7 Enterprise or Professional volume license. With the change from 1 December 2019 all owners of a version of Windows 7 Professional or Enterprise are to be able to order the extended security updates. The offer becomes part of the cloud solution provider program. Customers should be able to work together with their respective partner system houses and deliver the ESU.

2023 is over
A maximum of three one-year extensions of support is possible until the ESU expires on January 2023. The price is initially at $ 50 per interval, but consistently more expensive. According to a support document, the updates are not designed for Office 2010. Its software support is therefore scheduled to end on January 14, 2020.

Spataro does not miss the occasion to promote Microsoft 365 once again. The offer includes a license that includes Windows 10 and Office 365 in one

Microsoft is showing two dual-screen concepts!

Microsoft surface neo and surface duo!

Surface Neo and Surface Duo are Microsoft's upcoming dual-screen devices. The duo is an Android smartphone including Google Play services. The Neo is slightly larger and uses a specially adapted Windows OS called Windows 10X and an Intel CPU.

Long media have a Surface device with two screens speculated. Microsoft opened the curtain and introduced two new dual-screen concepts: the Surface Neo and the Surface Duo. The Neo has two 9-inch screens and uses Windows 10X, a specially adapted version of the operating system, which was designed for the use of two displays. The Surface Duo was also briefly shown. This is an Android phone with two screens, which will be released in the winter of 2020, however. Therefore, Microsoft keeps with details back.

Much more has been learned about the Surface Neo: It uses an Intel Chip of Generation Lakefield. This is a combo design of core and atom cores and LPDDR4 memory in one package. Intel has already presented the chip at the CES 2019. It fits into a housing, the halves are each 5.6 mm thick. There is also a USB type C port. The entire device should weigh 650 grams, according to Microsoft.

The two 9-inch LC panels have a touch screen and pen digitizer. The Surface Neo also uses the Surface Slim Pen, which was shown in the context of the Surface Pro X. It charges inductively on the device and is magnetically held on it. The two halves are not connected as in the Samsung Galaxy Fold but have a visible demarcation. But they are made of Gorilla Glass, which is far less sensitive. This also applies to the back of the device. The hinge can be folded 360 degrees.

Whether Windows 10X is its operating system or only a partial mode of Windows 10, was not said. Since the Surface Neo uses an x86 chip, at least all applications should be compatible. Windows 10X, however, behaves a little differently. So there is a magnetic mini-keyboard that can be stapled to the bottom screen. The software recognizes them and switches the screen to touchpad mode. Also, some Windows applications, such as Office 365, support a two-screen view that displays a variety of information.

Microsoft wants to sell its Surface Neo from 2020 onwards. An exact date for the concept of the manufacturer did not yet

Windows 10 Preview makes phone calls to the PC!

In future, users will be able to pair their smartphone with the Windows PC and receive or make calls from there. The calls called feature is currently available in the preview and works with Android smartphones from version 7.0.

Microsoft has released Insider Build 18999 for its Windows 10 operating system. In it, testers can try the new calls function. Users can take calls from their smartphones directly from their Windows PC or even drop them off. The condition is a telephone with Android OS starting from version 7.0 and a PC with Bluetooth module. That's because the phone is paired with the Windows system. Besides, Windows 10 should at least be updated to the build 19H1.

According to Microsoft, the call function can already take over a few things: Using the Your Phone application, users start calls by dialing a number or by synchronizing the contact list of the paired smartphone. Incoming calls can be accepted or rejected. For this purpose, users create their text messages as absence messages or forward directly to the answering machine of the smartphone.

The app also synchronizes your call history directly on the PC. Besides, calls can be transferred from the smartphone to the PC and vice versa. The application uses the internal microphone, display, and speakers of the Windows PC.

Microsoft has shown a short demo of the functions of the call on the Surface Event on October 2019 and connection with the still-experimental dual-screen smartphone Surface Duo. The software was officially announced in August 2019.

In some cases, the program does not behave as intended: For example, it may happen according to Microsoft that an unrecognized smartphone must be decoupled again via Bluetooth and reconnected.
